notes of a sleepless cicada

How do silenced memories reverberate across generations? What stories remain hidden beneath the surface? And what becomes possible when we slow down enough to truly listen?
This episode of Ženergija is dedicated to listening — to the frequencies that travel through bodies, memories, landscapes, and inherited languages.

Guest: Linda Jiayun Gao-Lenders, performer and sound artist

Linda Jiayun Gao-Lenders (*1995) is a Chinese-German performer and sound artist. Their practice explores diasporic experience, transgenerational trauma, and the politics of listening, drawing on personal archival material, interviews, and collaborative formats. Working across performance, soundwalks, and audio installations, they investigate how silenced memories reverberate in bodies, spaces, and (inherited) languages. They are a founding member of footnotes collective, which explores public space as a site of collective imagination and intervention. As part of the queer synthesizer collective sad sinʞ society, they create ambient, drone, and noise soundscapes for film and performance.
We will also talk about notes of a sleepless cicada, a beautiful site-specific soundwalk that invites us to listen to the earth, collective memory, and the invisible connections that sustain us.
